About me

My name is Bijan Jason Salehi and I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky.  I am married and have two children, a daughter who's 14 that plays violin and a son who's 9 whom I teach piano also.   I started taking piano lessons at the age of 7 and my father was diligent in making me practice 1 hour a day so I quickly progressed as children often do. I was fortunate to have two fantastic teachers as a kid that focused on classical music training. I competed every year in the Lexington Federated Music Festival as well as various 4H events, recitals and even appeared on television twice. (local television but I still felt famous). Entering college I auditioned for Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. and was awarded a scholarship for piano, performing all 3 movements of the Pathetique Sonata by Beethoven. A few years later I chose to study with a teacher that focused on blues, jazz, pop and boogie woogie/rock piano. This turned out to be a real passion of mine and I supplement this style in my teachings if the student is interested. My goal is to simply inspire a love for music and offer knowledge, support and encouragement for all my students so they are able to play piano for a lifetime.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is a mix of fun and flexible at the same time I try and push my students to progress and reach achievable goals.

Ideal student

Ideal students practice consistently and have a great attitude, no matter what obstacles may arise. Consistent practice is KEY, even if it is only for a few minutes a day. Also, supportive parental involvement will spring board a child's development, I can't stress that enough.

Unique Benefits

I am very diverse in the styles of piano I teach. Having been classically trained I understand the importance of diligent, disciplined practice but I also truly value what the student likes to play. In the end, it must contain an element of FUN, or the student will not stick with it for the long run.
